Tabiatha Esperon, RN, Receives DAISY Award for Excellence in Nursing

DAISY recipient Tabiatha Esperon, RNTabiatha Esperon, RN, from our 4 South Irving Unit, is the latest recipient of the DAISY Award, having been nominated by a patient’s family for the care she provided during their mother’s last days of life.

The family commended Tabiatha for her for attentive care, while giving the family the space they needed during a very difficult time.

The family wrote: “She responded quickly and honestly when we inquired about our mother’s pain level. She attended to our comfort needs while we took turns at Mom’s bedside and rotated overnight stays. She always made sure we were taken care of as well, while also giving us privacy.”

The family stated that Tabiatha’s presence and accessibility during one of the hardest periods in their collective lives made it possible for them to say goodbye to their mother and know that her transition was made easier with Tabiatha’s assistance.

“As the nurse who helped my mother pass from this life with sensitivity and dignity, she managed our family with respect and patience. Although she only met our mother in her final days, she regarded her and her care as if she saw that best part of her life,” the family said.

Thank you Tabiatha, for your warmth and compassion to our patients as well as their families. You are a great example of Carepassion in action.

About the DAISY Award

In November 1999, the family of J. Patrick Barnes formed the DAISY Foundation as a way to express their profound gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Pat died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. In 2015, Crouse became a DAISY-affiliated hospital and presents an award to a deserving nurse, selected by a committee, regularly throughout the year. The DAISY Award program at Crouse has been made possible through a donation from the Crouse Hospital Medical Staff.
