Registered Nurse Honored with DAISY Award

Jason Lyons, RN

Jason Lyons, RN, from our 6 North Irving Unit, is the latest recipient of the DAISY Award for extraordinary nursing.

Jason was nominated by a patient who was in Jason’s care on the day of his lumbar puncture. The patient says the procedure was his worst fear and he was very anxious. He couldn’t voice his concerns because of his anxiety, but wrote them down.

“As Jason read them, he put a hand on my shoulder,” the patient said. “He looked me in the eyes with so much empathy and concern when he said he would take care of me and that I would get through it.”

The patient commented on Jason’s genuine demeanor, saying, “While I was terrified, Jason helped me be brave. My fear was so real, but so was his concern and compassion.”

After the patient’s procedure was over, Jason took the time to check on him, looking for him the following day to make sure he was okay.  The patient said he couldn’t have gotten through it without Jason.

Chief Nursing Officer  Betty O’Connor, left, and Nurse Manager Karen Dabrowski presented Jason with his award.
