The Pomeroy College of Nursing at Crouse Hospital Inducts New Honor Society Members

The Pomeroy College of Nursing at Crouse Hospital welcomed 18 fourth-semester nursing students into the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society on February 9.

Just the fourth college of nursing in New York State to start a chapter, the Pomeroy College of Nursing at Crouse Hospital is the only associate degree program in Central New York with an Alpha Delta Nu chapter.
Last year, the faculty initiated the process of starting a chapter of Alpha Delta Nu at the college. In January 2016, the charter for the Delta Zeta Chapter was granted.

To be eligible for induction, a student must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA; grades of A or B in nursing courses; and complete a service project. Students are nominated for membership to the honor society during their third semester of study and, if deemed eligible, are inducted during their fourth semester.

This year, the 18 inductees completed a service project with the RISE Center in Syracuse. They organized a food, clothing, and toy drive to be donated to the refugee population in Syracuse.

The new members of the college’s Delta Zeta Chapter are: Claire Meyers (Chapter President), Margaret Brower (Chapter Vice President), Cynthia Parr (Chapter Secretary), Stephanie Dexter, Christina Duverger, Tabiatha Esperon, Corryn Fernandez, Kira Gridley, Maria Huaqui, Christian Janowski, Jordan Laux, Katherine Martel-Rodriguez, Madeline Moore, Kristen Moth, Amanda Piedmonte, Lean Rizza, Ilona Stelmakh and Jaylin Vernon.

During the induction ceremony, the students were asked to share their “symbols of nursing,” something that represents why they choose to pursue nursing. The students shared photos of loved ones, books that had an impact, and two students even brought up their loved ones to show why they’ve worked so hard during nursing school.
