DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty

An acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, The DAISY Foundation was established in November 1999 honoring J. Patrick Barnes who died at the age of 33 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP).  The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family and The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created. The goal was to ensure that nurses know how deserving they are of our society’s profound respect for the education, training, brainpower, and skill they put into their work, and especially for the caring with which they deliver their care. Crouse Hospital began awarding the DAISY Award in spring 2015 with a Crouse RN honored each month.

The DAISY Foundation, as a part of its service to the nursing profession’s role in patient care, established The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty. The purpose of this program is to provide to colleges/schools of nursing a national recognition program they may use to demonstrate appreciation to teachers for their commitment and inspirational influence on their students. The Foundation hopes that, this program will contribute to a positive work environment for faculty in schools.

Our DAISY Faculty Award honorees personify Pomeroy College of Nursing’s remarkable impact on students and their patients. They consistently demonstrate excellence through their nursing/clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care, and they are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.
