Board-certified and fellowship-trained cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgeon Jorge Eller, MD, MBA, FAANS, who previously served as a member of the team at Crouse Medical Practice Neurosurgery, has recently returned to the practice. Dr. Eller will see new and former patients at Crouse Medical Practice Neurosurgery, 739 Irving Ave., Suite 600.
“Dr. Eller is highly regarded, and we’re proud to offer his experience, education and advanced training to our patients once again,” says President and CEO Seth Kronenberg, MD.
Dr. Eller returns to Crouse from Eisenhower Neuroscience Institute in California. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery since 2008 and is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. “I’m pleased to have returned to Central New York to practice at Crouse, which has been deeply committed for many years to the delivery of advanced neurosurgical techniques in the area’s most state-of the-art facility,” says Dr. Eller.
He specializes in the treatment of brain, spinal and peripheral nerve pathologies in general, such as brain and spinal tumors; pituitary tumors; cervical or lumbar disc herniations; cervical or lumbar spinal stenosis; and carpal tunnel or ulnar nerve entrapment. In addition, he uses advanced microsurgical and minimally invasive endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular pathologies, such as intracranial aneurysms; arteriovenous malformations and fistulas; carotid stenosis or dissections; intracranial vascular stenosis and strokes, as well as chronic subdural hematomas, facial pain and trigeminal neuralgia.
After earning his medical degree from the Federal University of Espirito Santo Medical School in his native Brazil, Dr. Eller completed an internship in general surgery and residency in neurological surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University. After his residency, he completed a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, where he subsequently served as an assistant professor of neurological surgery and chief of neurosurgery at the Portland VA Medical Center. In 2010, he joined the neurosurgical faculty at Saint Louis University, where he completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery, followed by a fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
After completing his fellowship training, Dr. Eller joined the faculty at Thomas Jefferson University Department of Neurosurgery, where he has served for several years as a clinical assistant professor and cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgeon at the AtlantiCare Neurosciences Institute, a member of the Jefferson Neurosciences Network. In this capacity, Dr. Eller has helped develop several neurosurgical service lines at AtlantiCare, including a Comprehensive Stroke Center, multidisciplinary neuro-oncological and skull base surgery as well as providing general neurosurgical trauma care in support of the institution’s trauma center. Dr. Eller also earned a master’s in business administration from Widener University in Pennsylvania.
Throughout his career, Dr. Eller has published and lectured on surgery for brain tumors, movement disorders, trigeminal neuralgia, skull base approaches and surgical and endovascular management of cerebrovascular diseases. His clinical interests and broad training include complementary microsurgical and endovascular management of cerebrovascular diseases such as acute ischemic strokes, intracranial aneurysms, carotid stenosis, intracranial stenosis, arteriovenous malformations, and chronic subdural hematomas, in addition to brain tumors, skull base tumors, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas, pituitary tumors, hemifacial spasm and trigeminal neuralgia.
Cerebrovascular diseases affecting blood vessels and blood flow to the brain are serious, complex and often life threatening or debilitating. Such conditions demand the skill of highly trained and experienced physicians using the most advanced technology and supported by a multi-disciplined, collaborative team of specialists.
Crouse, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, is home to the area’s most sophisticated minimally invasive, microsurgical tools available. Two hybrid operating rooms combine radiology suites into the traditional OR, which provide improved patient outcomes, including faster diagnosis, treatment and minimized complication rates.
