Endocrinology is the medical specialty that focuses on the endocrine system, the complex network of glands that produce hormones, which influence growth, development, metabolism, and reproduction.

Crouse Medical Practice Endocrinology provides diagnosis and clinical care for a wide range of endocrine disorders.

  • Diabetes, including Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, and associated complications relating to the disease
  • Thyroid disorders, including parathyroid hormone excess, hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer
  • Adrenal disorders, including adrenal insufficiency
  • Pituitary disorders, including pituitary tumors
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome
  • Vitamin D deficiency
  • Osteoporosis, including diagnosis and current therapies

Endocrine Surgery

Endocrine surgeons are experts in performing surgeries on the endocrine system.

Surgeries performed by an endocrine surgeon include:

  • Adrenalectomy: Removal of one or both adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys.
  • Parathyroidectomy: Removal of one or more of the parathyroid glands, usually located behind the thyroid gland.
  • Thyroidectomy: Removal of all or part of the thyroid gland, located in the front of the neck. There are two main types of thyroidectomy:
    • Total thyroidectomy: Removal of the entire thyroid gland.
    • Thyroid lobectomy: Removal of one lobe of the thyroid gland.
  • Pancreatectomy: Removal of all or part of the pancreas, located behind the stomach. Pancreatic surgery can also be performed by general surgeons.
