DAISY Award Presented to Nurse from 6 North Irving Unit

Jennifer Gibson, RN, from 6 North Irving Unit is the latest DAISY award recipient.

Jennifer was nominated by a 90-year-old patient’s daughter, who explained that her mother still speaks fondly of Jennifer and the care she received at Crouse, after having been in the hospital more than two months ago.

The patient was transferred to Crouse, where she spent more than a week. Her daughter stated that the care she received was excellent. She felt everyone went above and beyond for her mother.

“I have to focus on Jennifer, as she is truly the inspiration that keeps my mother going today,” the patient’s daughter said. She said, “Jennifer is exactly what a nurse should be. She was so compassionate and professional.”

Jennifer’s compassion extended to the patient’s whole family, the daughter explained. She said that even though Jennifer was always busy, she took the time to answer the family’s questions and keep them informed.

About the DAISY Award
In November 1999, the family of J. Patrick Barnes formed the DAISY Foundation as a way to express their profound gratitude to nurses for the work they do for patients and their families every day. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Pat died at age 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. In 2015, Crouse became a DAISY-affiliated hospital, and presents an award to a deserving nurse, selected by a committee, regularly throughout the year. The DAISY Award program at Crouse has been made possible through a donation from the Crouse Hospital Medical Staff.
