It’s a Family Affair at the Pomeroy College of Nursing

By: Laurie Clark

Sisters Samantha and Serena Steckel are two years apart in age and are currently both first-semester students at the Pomeroy College of Nursing.

“It’s hard to say who wanted to go to nursing school first,” Samantha (Sami) says. “Our mom was an RN and we both talked about being nurses growing up.”

Sami and Serena ultimately found their way to the Pomeroy College of Nursing because they sought a nursing program with a lot of structure.

“We both have busy lives and jobs and wanted a program that could accommodate that while still being challenging,” Serena says.

Though the program is challenging, Sami and Serena agree that having each other to lean on is nice.

“It’s nice to have each other; someone who will be honest with you when you fail but who you know has your best interest at heart,” Sami says.

So far, the sisters have been enjoying their time at the college and are looking forward to the future…which may include working together.

“We both are interested in critical care nursing, so who knows!” Serena says with a smile. “It would be great if we could work together. That’s the hope!”
