DAISY Nursing Excellence Award Presented to Stephanie Rabbo, RN and McKenzie Welch-Melie, RN

By: Crouse News

Congratulations to our most recent DAISY award recipients, Stephanie Rabbo, RN, from 5 South Irving and McKenzie Welch-Melie, RN, from our operating room.

Stephanie was nominated for exceeding the expectations of a patient who wrote:

“Stephanie started using her vast abilities and skills to attend to my pancreatitis, all the while calming me down and letting me talk about what was going on with my daughter and brother. She is such a humane, caring person! All the while, she was performing tasks to get me on track physically. She is what I call a true multi-tasker, combining her nursing skills with her peaceful demeanor. She physically and mentally willed me back to feeling better all throughout that day. Part two of the story occurred today when I was delighted to see that she was my nurse again. Once again she is carrying the day for me. She has truly been my guardian angel!”

McKenzie received a DAISY Award for ensuring compassionate care for patients throughout the entirety of their stay. One of her patients wrote:

“From the moment McKenzie walked into the room, I could tell that she was truly invested in caring for all of me, not just my surgery. She answered all of my questions without hesitation and never made me feel like it was too much. Before we left the waiting area, she asked if she could pray with my husband and I. Tears instantly filled my eyes as she prayed with us. She knew that this was exactly what we needed – what I needed – before I knew I needed it.

After surgery, I remember her coming to check on me multiple times in PACU to make sure I was doing okay. She took the time out of her busy day to make sure I knew she was still there for me, even after I left the OR. What McKenzie did for me that day is something I will never forget. She truly cared about me physically and emotionally. She showed both empathy and compassion when I was scared to death. She is the definition of a nurse doing God’s work, and I am so grateful for her. She is so deserving of this award.”

Thank you, Stephanie and McKenzie, for exceeding expectations and providing compassionate care.
