Mel Stith

46th Annual Event at the Oncenter to honor Dr. Melvin T. Stith, Sr.

Dr. Melvin Stith and his family have been long-time supporters of Crouse Health as well as numerous other community endeavors. In particular, Dr. Stith has served on the Crouse Health Foundation Board of Trustees and Crouse Hospital Board of Directors, serving as Foundation Chair from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Stith has had a longstanding career rooted in service to others. He served in the US Army Military Command from 1968 to 1972, achieving the rank of Captain with an assignment in the Republic of Vietnam. Dr. Stith served as Dean of the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University from 2005 to 2015 and in 2018 he was appointed interim President of Norfolk State University, his undergraduate alma mater. Dr. Stith has been recognized numerous times over the course of his long and distinguished career.

In 1990 he received Florida State University’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Distinguished Service Award. In 2014 Dr. Stith was inducted into the inaugural class of the PhD Project Hall of Fame; and in 2018, he was inducted into the Florida State University College of Business Faculty Hall of Fame. He is a recipient of the Syracuse University Orange Circle Award, and is a member of the Lyman Beecher Brooks Society at Norfolk State University. Dr. Stith was named as a top influential black corporate executive by Savoy Magazine in 2016, 2017 and most recently in 2021.

In addition, Dr. Stith has served on the following corporate boards: Flowers Foods; Aflac; Synovus Financial Corporation; Keebler Foods; Rexall Sundown; United Telephone of Florida and AARP Services. He is a founding director of the Jim Moran Foundation.

Crouse Health Foundation will hold an in-person gala at the Oncenter beginning at 6 p.m. on September 29 featuring a reception, gourmet dinner and musical entertainment by Atlas.

Crouse Health Foundation Tribute Evening proceeds will be used to support the work of Crouse Health Foundation, including purchasing special equipment, underwriting new initiatives and funding educational programs and scholarships.
