Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
The internally renowned American anthropologist Margaret Mead made this remark years ago, but the woman of the Onondaga Salon #154 Chapter of the American Legion are living its sentiment today through their action-oriented good deeds to better our community.
Bettering the lives of newborns in our Baker Regional Intensive Care Unit is the most recent example of how these thoughtful, committed citizens are making a big difference in the lives of others. On Sunday, March 26, women of the chapter came together to host their annual “baby shower” for our “Little Fighters” and their families.
Each year the women gather donations of baby items and baskets, which are delivered by Crouse team members to families of NICU babies who have limited means. Items include full-term infant and preemie clothes, hats, socks, blankets, boppy pillows, stuffed animals, rattles, diapers, knitted and crocheted items.
This year the chapter women exceeded their own goals: multiple chapters contributed to the cause, which was also supported by Babies “R” Us. Additionally, chapters in Eastwood and Cicero collected about $2,800 in cash donations to benefit needs of the families.
Crouse Health Foundation and the Baker Regional NICU team are deeply grateful for this overwhelming show of support for Crouse’s tiniest patients and their families. The women of Onondaga Salon #154 Chapter of the American Legion are, indeed, changing the world.
