Dr. Carkey is board certified by the ANCC as an adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner. She is an assistant clinical professor of nursing at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY., and maintains a clinical practice at Psychiatric Consultants of Central New York, where she is a principal in the practice.
Committed to global mental health, she has travelled to El Salvador on several medical mission trips. She is currently the volunteer director of the psychiatric/mental health program of the Mission of Miracles, a sustainable medical mission serving the Salvadorian people.
She received her DNP form Chatham University in May 2012. Her Capstone project: “Improved Access to Psychiatric Care: a Collaborative Care Practice Model” describes the implementation of an evidence-based practice change initiative and reflects her commitment to improving access to psychiatric care for patients.
