Crouse School Of Nursing To Hold Open House Thurday, Nov. 18 For Prospective Students

10/27/08

With the sinking economy and national unemployment rates at a five-year high, more and more people are considering a professional field that is widely believed to be immune to job cuts: nursing and other allied healthcare specialties. The Crouse Hospital School of Nursing will greet prospective students who want to learn more about pursuing a degree in nursing during an open house Thursday, Nov. 20, 5 to 7 p.m., in the Marley Education Center, 765 Irving Ave. Faculty will be on hand to provide information and answer questions, and attendees will be able to tour the school, labs and dorms and speak with current and former students. Refreshments will be provided, and free parking is available in the Marley Education Center parking garage. For more information, call 470-7481.

The United States is in the midst of a nursing shortage that is expected to intensify as baby boomers age (and their need for health care increases) and as many in today’s nursing pool are nearing retirement age, according to the Director of the Crouse Hospital School of Nursing Ann Sedore, PhD, RN. “Nursing colleges and universities across the country are struggling to expand enrollment levels to meet the rising demand for nursing care,” she said, noting that Crouse welcomed 99 new students to the school in August. Of those, 22 already had earned associate’s degrees, 22 bachelor’s degrees and two new students entered the school having previously earned their master’s degrees, indicating new students, indeed, are very interested in pursuing nursing as a new career choice.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF NURSING PROGRAM:
Crouse Hospital School of Nursing ranks among the top RN programs in New York State and nationwide. Additionally, every graduate is immediately employable within the healthcare field or able to matriculate into an advanced degree program. The School was recently accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, a high-quality, independent regulatory agency with rigorous educational standards. Offering a two-year associate’s degree program, the school features classroom, clinical, laboratory and computer-assisted study within a state-of-the-art teaching environment. Innovative program design, low student-to-instructor ratios and affordable tuition are among the school’s strengths and contribute to the success of each individual. The School also opened its Center for Academic Success, with an instructional coordinator to provide tutoring and assistance with assignments, last year.
