Syracuse area hospitals to host first-ever Syracuse Healthcare Quality Forum

03/15/09

The first annual Syracuse Healthcare Quality Forum will be hosted on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center at Oncenter. The event, geared towards educating area healthcare professionals, is jointly sponsored by the hospitals and medical staffs of four area facilities, including Community General Hospital, Crouse Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and University Hospital.

“This is a ground-breaking initiative – for the first time in our history, four area hospitals are working collaboratively to promote quality healthcare,” said Fred Goldberg, M.D., vice president and chief medical officer at Community General Hospital. “Together, we have created a free forum for the healthcare community to learn about the advantages and implementation of quality patient care from nationally renowned guest speakers who are experts in the field of quality and safety.”

The agenda of the event, which has been planned in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (CME), includes the following guest speakers:

  • Tamra E. Merryman, RN, MSN, FACHE
Chief Quality Officer, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
“Transformation of Care at the Bedside”
  • Harvey V. Fineberg, MD, PhD
    President, Institute of Medicine
“Patient Safety and Quality, the Unfinished Agenda”
  •  David Nash, MD
Professor and Chairman, Department of Health Policy
Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University
    “Leadership for Quality and Safety”
  • James P. Bagian, MD, PE
Human Factors and Patient Safety Expert/Veteran NASA Astronaut
“Getting Stellar Clinical Results: It’s Not Rocket Science”

The Syracuse Healthcare Quality Forum, scheduled from 1:00 to 6:30 p.m., is free and open to all healthcare professionals. To register and for more information, visit www.shqf.org.
