Did Katie Klee, RN, from our 5 South Irving unit, always want to be a nurse? She says yes, because of her role model — her mom, long-time Crouse Hospital nurse Becky Klee, RN. “I always knew I wanted to be just like my mom,” said Katie.
The 27-year-old graduated from SUNY Brockport and came to Crouse immediately after graduation in 2008. Katie’s currently pursuing her nurse practitioner degree and enjoys working on 5 South Irving. “I love working at Crouse,” she says. “I love taking care of people, but I really love the people who work on 5 South. They’re not just my co-workers — they’re my best friends!”
As we say at Crouse, “When you love your job, it shows.” That’s exactly why Dean D. wrote us recently through the Your Crouse Story feature of our website to express the ways Katie showed how much she loves her job caring for patients.
Dean wrote: “While I already have filled out a patient survey card, I was so impressed with my nursing care that I found this site to reiterate my thoughts. In particular I would like to thank and recognize the care provided by my day nurse on 5 South Irving, Ms. Katie Klee. A bit of background of my own story will help put my glowing assessment of Ms. Klee in perspective. Due to chronic pancreatitis over the last eight years I have spent, probably, a collective year in inpatient care in Boston, New York City, Florida and Syracuse. I can say, without reservation, that Ms. Klee is the best nurse I have had.
Her clinical work was flawless. She checked on me at various times while I was writhing in pain. Even though she couldn't give me pain meds yet, her calming influence and extraordinary sense of humor took my mind off the pain, and gave me comfort and happiness in a difficult time. I believe in holistic care, and Ms. Klee's demeanor, actions and personality were extraordinary in this regard. Please treat Ms. Klee well as the hospital and all of the patients lucky enough to receive care from her are blessed.”
Thanks so much to Dean for sharing his Crouse story about Katie. She’s a shining example of living our Vision 1 – service excellence – anticipating and exceeding expectations of those we serve by using the “momma test” — treating patients the way you’d want your own mother to be cared for. In this case, Katie caring for Dean the way she'd want her own mom, Becky, to be treated!
