Crouse Hosts Second Annual Memorial Blood Drive to Honor Baldwinsville Native, the Late Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider

05/26/13

Blood Drive - June 2013In June 2011, Baldwinsville resident Corporal Kyle R. Schneider lost his life in the line of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps in Afghanistan. Cpl. Schneider, like his mother and father, was a blood donor — as well as an organ donor. “Kyle lived what he felt,” says his mom, Lorie Schneider, “and that meant helping people whenever he could.”

Crouse Hospital is providing the opportunity for Central New Yorkers to follow in the footsteps of the brave local soldier by helping others through its second annual memorial blood drive on behalf of the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

The hospital is dedicating the effort to the memory of Cpl. Schneider, with his parents, Lorie and Rick Schneider, servings as honorary co-chairpersons of the drive, to be held at Crouse June 4 (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.); June 5 (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.); and June 6 (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Cpl. Schneider is the son of Rick Schneider, a CT technician in the hospital’s Medical Imaging Dept.

This American Red Cross blood drive at Crouse is open to the public and welcomes walk-ins, but appointments will receive priority. The hospital will provide free parking to blood donors for the duration of their appointment.

The hospital hosts quarterly two-day blood drives, but hopes to exceed previous donation records by adding another day to this drive, with a collection goal of 97 units overall.

“We are so honored that Crouse has chosen to dedicate this blood drive in Kyle’s memory again this year,” the couple said. “As a family, we have always donated blood and understood just how important it is. With these efforts, we can honor Kyle’s spirit of service, and that of his fellow service men and women, while helping save lives.”

The Red Cross requires donors to be at least 17 years old, healthy and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Those interested can make appointments by calling 315/470-7123.
