Crouse Celebrates Black History

02/02/12

BHM 2012 twoWe were honored to have Judge Langston McKinney as a guest Feb. 1 to help us kick off a month-long celebration recognizing and honoring the accomplishments of African Americans in our community. Judge McKinney became Syracuse's first black city judge upon his appointment in 1986. One of his main messages: whatever you do, do it well. We are grateful to staff member Veronica Clanton and her colleagues for their leadership and coordination of this year's Black History Month activities, which continue throughout the month. Pictured (top, l-r): Judge McKinney (a great storyteller by the way); SEIU 1199's Derrick Carr; Veronica; 1199 VP Ruth Heller; and 1199's Kevin Lockhart, who shared his experience in the military and how it has shaped who he is today. Pictured below (l-r): Christian rapper Joe Dowdy (aka Minista Whisper), who performed for staff; Crouse CEO Paul Kronenberg, MD; staff member Janelle Boyd; Sakia Dowdy; and Veronica.
