Congresswoman-elect Ann Marie Buerkle visited Crouse Hospital on December 23 to get an update on hospital progress and plans for the future. The newly elected congresswoman, a native of Auburn, also met staff and toured a number of areas including the Cardiac Catheterization Suite and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, two key service areas for the hospital.
During the hour-and-a-half visit, hospital CEO Paul Kronenberg, MD, and Chief Financial Officer Kimberly Boynton provided a financial, operational and historical overview and update and discussed challenges and opportunities associated with healthcare reform, which will be a top agenda item for the new congress once it convenes in January. An attorney and former nurse (she worked locally and at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City), Rep. Buerkle has a significant interest in healthcare policy and is looking forward to addressing issues related to hospitals and other healthcare providers.
