For the 23rd holiday season, the clock tower atop Crouse Hospital will be illuminated by 3,000 white bulbs, each purchased by a donor in honor or in memory of someone special. Proceeds from the Crouse Hospital Auxiliary’s annual Lights of Love campaign support various programs and services at Crouse. This year, when the tower comes aglow, donors can take heart in knowing that 2010 proceeds will be used to support the life-saving work of the hospital’s Baker Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which cares for our region’s tiniest patients.
Contributors are invited to attend the lighting ceremony and reception on Monday, Nov. 29 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. in the Marley Education Center’s second floor lounge, 765 Irving Ave. Alliance Bank president Jack Webb will be joined by his wife, Linda, and Alliance Executive Assistant Judy Shultz to flip the switch that turns on the lights. They will be joined by Thomas Curran, MD, of Neonatal Associates of CNY, and several children who actually spent their first days and months in Crouse’s NICU.
Each year, the Baker Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Hospital cares for between 800 and 1,000 premature and critically-ill infants from 15 counties in central and northern New York. With this year’s campaign proceeds, the NICU will acquire a handheld ultrasound machine. The size of a cell phone, this state-of-the-art device will be used for noninvasive scans of babies for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Lightweight, portable yet powerful, this device makes certain procedures easier to perform and less stressful for both the neonate and the practitioner.
Each light on the clock tower will glow in honor or memory of someone special as designated by donors. To purchase a light, call 315/470-7530. A listing of donors to Lights of Love will be on display in the Memorial Lobby of Crouse Hospital, and will be updated as donations are received throughout the holiday season.
