A Visit to Hospital-Land

Sponsored by Crouse Health, a Visit to Hospital-Land was established in 1976 and provides an educational opportunity for first and second-grade students to learn what a stay at Crouse Hospital, or any hospital, would be like.

• The 105-120 minute course is designed to help educate children and decrease fears about hospitalization.
• Classes are taught by an RN who will lead the children through a pretend tonsillectomy. The children can express their feelings about hospitalization while learning about the healthcare professionals they may encounter.
• Students will role-play a patient, parent, doctor or nurse to experience handling various equipment, including a hospital bed, wheelchair and stretcher.
• Upon completing the course, students receive a goodie bag, certificate, and a patient I.D. bracelet with their name on it.
• Over 9,000 classes have been held, allowing nearly 206,000 children to participate from 80-90 schools in and around Onondaga County
