Pride Cup Hockey Classic Key Sponsors

Crouse Health Foundation’s 3rd annual Pride Cup Hockey Classic was held on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the War Memorial at The Oncenter to benefit Crouse Hospital’s Baker Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Hockey Classic featured an amateur hockey tournament, casual reception and Syracuse Crunch vs. Rochester Americans game.
Four amateur men’s hockey teams participated in a four-game tournament throughout the day. The Rochester Police Department (Richard “Dickie” DiNicola, Captain) defeated the Syracuse Selects (Tony Cabana, Captain) 7-4 in the exciting championship game. Earlier, the Iceholes (Liam Curry, Captain) topped the Syracuse Fire Department (Jed Smith, Captain) 9 – 3 in the consolation game.
Players and their fans relaxed after the games at a family-friendly casual reception with children of all ages enjoying a bouncy house and big inflatable chair, face painting, balloon creations, a prize wheel and a visit by the Crunch mascot. Despite a gallant effort, the Syracuse Crunch suffered a loss to the Rochester Americans 5-3.
During the Crunch game, sports enthusiasts participated in a Silent Auction, featuring items autographed by NHL and AHL stars. “Pucks for Preemies,” signed by Syracuse Crunch players, were also on sale throughout the Hockey Classic.
The net proceeds of $11,000 will benefit Crouse Hospital’s Baker Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a NYS Level IV regional referral center for premature and the most critically-ill infants in the fifteen-county area it serves. Crouse Hospital’s NICU cares for babies born as young as 24 weeks gestation and weighing just 500 grams. Neonatologists provide coverage 24/7, 365 days per year caring for 800 – 1,000 infants annually.
